About us

Juvenilia aims to raise interest in opera, ballet, and theatre among the under 35s. It organizes cultural exchanges in different European cities and negotiates ticket prices to make attending the performances more affordable. Participants can go backstage and meet the artists, enjoy city tours, and meet like-minded people from other countries.

Our story

Juvenilia was founded in 1998 as the European Network of Young Opera Friends in Milan. The initiative was a follow-up to the first European Youth Cultural Meeting organized at the Salzburg Festival in 1997.

Our member clubs and partner theatres host the Juvenilia events, where young opera friends from all across Europe enjoy opera, ballet, and classical music performances together, as well as a cultural and social program.

The participants apart from attending opera or ballet performances, enjoy activities like cultural workshops, visits, meet & greet with the artistic team, guided tours, and culinary tourism.

Juvenilia is dedicated to supporting the enjoyment of opera amongst young people. In 2018, Juvenilia won the second 2018 European Charlemagne Youth Prize, Charlemagne, awarded by the European Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation, for been involved with projects helping to promote understanding between people from different European countries. Representatives of Juvenilia were invited to Aachen, Germany, where the award ceremony took place.

In 2020, we launched Juvenilia at home enjoy free streaming of performances during the opera season.

Our Activities

The network gathers young people who have a passion for the performing arts, by connecting opera houses and festivals to young friends associations.

Our member clubs and partner theatres host events in which the Juvenilia network is invited to participate. At these events, young opera friends from all across Europe (from 10 to 100 participants) apart from attending opera or ballet performances, enjoy activities like cultural workshops, visits, meet&greet with the artistic team, guided tours, and culinary tourism.

Juvenilia gathers once a year in the General Assembly where members exchange ideas, discuss the future of the network and future events in the frame of a great Juvenilia event
